FRIENDS OF THE GENEVA PUBLIC LIBRARY
Bylaws


I. The name of the organization shall be the Friends of the Geneva Public Library.

 

II. The purpose of this organization shall be to maintain an association of persons interested in the Geneva Public Library; to focus public attention on the library; to stimulate the use of the library’s resources and services; to receive and encourage gifts, endowments and bequests to the library; to support and cooperate with the library in developing library services and facilities for the community; to lend legislative support where needed; and to support the freedom to read as expressed in the American Library Association Bill of Rights.

 

III. The voting membership shall consist of all members who have paid their annual dues.

 

IV. Dues for voting members shall be $1.00 per year. Member shall remain open all year.

 

V. The Executive Board of the organization shall consist of the officers plus the Geneva Librarian which shall be as follows:

A. President
B. Vice President
C. Secretary
D. Treasurer
E. Committee Chairpersons


1.Publicity
2.Telephone
3.Projects (Fund Raising)
4.Library Activities
5.Window display and glass case display

 

VI. Two regular meetings, presently related to National Library Week in April and Children’s Book Week in November, shall be held each year with monthly Committee meetings under the supervision of the Committee Chairpersons and the Librarian.

A. Time and place of meetings may be set at the discretion of the Executive Board
B. All meetings shall be opened to the public
VII. Nominations and election of officers
A. A Nominating Committee of three members shall be appointed by the President in February.
B. The Nominating Committee shall present its report to the membership at the April meeting with additional nominations made from the floor.
C. Officers shall assume duties at the close of the April meeting.
D. No officer shall serve in the same office more than two consecutive years, unless the nominating committee determines that a specific office shall not be opened for election or no other person wishes to assume the office.

 

VIII. These By-Laws may be amended at any general semi-annual meeting by a simple majority vote of the membership present, provided that notice of the amendment shall be posted in the library two weeks prior to said meeting or by direct telephone contact.

 

IX. All projects and library activities must first be approved by the Librarian and the Library
Board of Directors.

A. The Librarian and Library Board may suggest to the Activities Committee needs and
projects of particular interest groups.
B. Suggestions can be made to the Activities Committee at any time by any person to further the needs of interest.
